Consensus

The Consensus Game (AKA the Keynesian Beauty Contest) is a game in which players are rewarded for ranking the contestants in order of popularity. If your entry matches the average of all player entries then you win the pot!

Remember, you win when your guess matches the crowd's. Be sure to choose the ranking that you think everyone else will select, not your personal favorite.

Scoring

Scoring is calculated as shown below. Note that more points are awarded for correctly ranking the most popular contestants than for the least popular contestants.

total points=∑i=1n[(Ncandidates−Ranki)∗(Ncandidates−∣Ranki−Entryi∣)]total\,points = \sum_{i=1}^n[(N_{candidates} - Rank_{i}) * (N_{candidates}-|Rank_{i}-Entry_{i}|)]totalpoints=i=1∑n[(Ncandidates−Ranki)∗(Ncandidates−∣Ranki−Entryi∣)]

Winning

The game is pari-mutuel which means the winners divide the total pot amongst themselves pro-rata based on the amount each player bet. Bigger bets entitle a player to a larger share of the pot.

The house takes a 4% rake.

Example Calculation:

Alice and Bob both tie to win the Consensus game. Assume the total pot is 100 MON, Alice bet 2 MON, and Bob bet 3 MON. In this case, payoffs are as follows:

Alice:2/(2+3)∗(100∗0.96)=38.4 MONAlice: 2/(2+3) * (100*0.96) = 38.4 \>MONAlice:2/(2+3)∗(100∗0.96)=38.4MON
Bob:3/(2+3)∗(100∗0.96)=57.6 MONBob: 3/(2+3) * (100*0.96) = 57.6\>MONBob:3/(2+3)∗(100∗0.96)=57.6MON
